The National Honor Society is the country's best-known honor for high school students. It goes beyond the honor roll to recognize students who excel across four pillars: scholarship, leadership, service, and character.
Scholarship
We show up for our learning. Members keep their grades strong and help classmates do the same.
Leadership
We lead where we are, in class, in clubs, and on teams, and we bring others with us.
Service
We give our time. Members serve the school and the West Valley community.
Character
We do the right thing when no one is watching. Honesty and respect come first.
National Honor Society
Highland Prep West is home to a recognized chapter of the National Honor Society, the country's oldest and best-known organization for students who excel in scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Our chapter follows NHS national standards for selection and membership.

New members are inducted each year in a ceremony with family and staff. Inductees receive their National Honor Society certificate and honor cords and pledge to uphold the four pillars.
How members are selected.
Membership is an honor students earn. Here is who qualifies and how selection works.
Who qualifies
- Be a sophomore, junior, or senior.
- Have attended Highland Prep West for at least one semester.
- Hold a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
How selection works
- 1Students who meet the GPA and enrollment criteria are invited to apply.
- 2Candidates submit an application describing their leadership, service, and activities.
- 3A faculty council reviews each application against the four pillars.
- 4Selected students are notified and invited to the induction ceremony.

How members serve.
Service is at the heart of membership. Members give back in two ways.
Chapter service
Members take part in group projects the chapter plans together to meet a school or community need.
- Tutoring and peer mentoring
- Campus and community clean-ups
- Food, clothing, and supply drives
Individual service
Members also complete their own service projects that reflect their talents and interests.
- Volunteering with a cause you care about
- Coaching, teaching, or mentoring
- Using a skill to help others
Members complete a set number of service hours each year and log them with the chapter. Contact the advisor for the current requirement.
Melissa Wilson
Mrs. Wilson advises the National Honor Society chapter. She guides members through service, the selection process, and the induction ceremony, and she is the person families and students can reach with questions about NHS.
